No, I'm Not Really Crazy, and Neither Are You

You know those days when you seriously just feel absolutely bats!*$ crazy?  Like, pretty much everything just makes you want to punch someone in the face?  I'm hoping you say, "Um yeah, of course I know that feeling!"  Because if you don't, then you're a liar - and I don't like liars.

This blog is really all about helping you feel a little less like you're from crazy town. And let's be honest, it's for me too.  Because even though I've come a loooong way, I still have some days where I feel just a tad crazy.

I started my crazy journey when I decided to go to school and get a degree in Psychology.  I LOVED my classes, but did not really put a lot of thought into that whole after college career plan. I thought it'd just work out or I'd marry rich.  No such luck.

I continued on to grad school because that's what you do when you have a degree in Psychology, and I earned a Masters in Professional Counseling.  I intended to go on to earn a PhD, but when I took a look at my student loan balance that put a quick halt to any plans that involved spending money and not earning money.

Fast forward 5 years and several not so awesome jobs later, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, but I'm not currently working as one.  I had to leave my counseling job to take on a non-counseling job in order to make more money. How is that possible you ask?  Because counselors get paid crap.  Let me draw you a diagram of my salary to student debt ratio:

So yeah, there's that.  My dream has always been to own my own private practice or work in a group practice, but until my (and my husband's) student loan debts are gone - that will just remain a dream.  I maintain my license and have looked into doing part-time private practice on the side, but just haven't made the jump yet.

So, here I am.  I actually do like helping people, but I also really, really like paying my bills and eating.  I figured with my background in counseling, especially in counseling women, maybe I could strike out on the interwebz to try to help others.  And if I can earn a little money along the way to help offset those loan payments, then great.

I hope you find the topics covered here helpful.  If not, comment and let me know what you want.  I've run many women's therapy groups and I kind of conceptualize this to be like that.  Sometimes just knowing you're not the only one can do wonders for your mental health.  Here's to us all being a little crazy together!
